In 1989, Madonna releases "Like a Prayer", her first (of several) coming of age work. Coming from a strong catholic upbringing, in the middle of the AIDS epidemic outburst, Madonna decided to question the taboos of religion, drawing attention even from the Vatican - leading to the loss of a major endorsement from a brand that ironically claimed to be “the choice of a new generation”.
